Matt started his career in 2003 in San Diego, CA, apprenticing with Kent ‘The Dixie Devil’ Keaton at Body Art Tattoo. Upon moving back to the East Coast, Matt then worked for the legendary J.D. Crowe at Ancient Art Tattoo in Chesapeake, VA, for 4 1/2 years. From there, he spent 14 years at Folk City Tattoo in Suffolk, VA before opening James River Tattoo in Carrollton, Va. in June 2025.
